KHORDHA with panoramic view and cultural vitality was constituted as Notified Area Council on 12.7.1960 under provisions of the Orissa Municipal Act. 1950 vide Government in Erst-while Health Department Notification No. 5269/L.S.G. Dated 12.7.1960 & subsequently converted to Municipality vide Govt. in H &U.D. Department Notification No. 26806/HUD dated 31.8.2000. This Municipality comprises of 8 revenue villages an area of 25.84 sq. Kms. As per 2001 census this Municipality has a population of 39,054 persons. The Municipality is divided in to 22 wards for smooth management of the Local Body.
The culture of KHORDHA is replete with historical significant. The last freedom fort of India, the then Capital of Orissa, KHORDHA is redolent of the imperishable Legacy of the Oriya “PAIKAS” where there was resurgence of “PAIKA BIDROHA” in 1817 against an alien arrogant and aggressive British culture.
